Hello, my name is Liz. I live in Wales with my husband, two kids and Rosie, our cute and greedy dog. I’m so happy to see you here! I love food and believe that eating is one of life’s great pleasures and cooking should not feel like a chore. I started Cooking Compass because I want to pass on some of my recipes and knowledge to help you navigate the often overwhelming world of how to feed your family healthy balanced meals.
My love of cooking began as a child. My mother is a great cook and I was naturally curious about what she was doing in the kitchen. I would often ask to help prepare dinner, or pester her to help me find a recipe and make something.
Many of my strongest childhood memories revolve around food; the smells of roast dinners and homemade sausage rolls, helping to decorate the Christmas cake, making welsh cakes, the smell of freshly picked tomatoes from the greenhouse, the taste of homemade gooseberry tart and arguing with my brother over the rice pudding “scrapings” around the bowl.
Since then I was often found with my head in a cookbook or in the kitchen creating, and my love of food and learning continued when I went to university and gained a degree in nutrition and dietetics. I personally love the flavours and health benefits of the Mediterranean diet so many of my recipes are inspired by this way of eating.
Please take a look around my blog for some inspiration and ideas. To get you started here are a couple of my most popular posts….
